Welcome and Happy 2008!

So, it's that time of year again. The time when most of the world is reflecting on 2007 and looking forward to a new beginning.

I personally do not make New Year's resolutions. The word "resolution" is much the same as the word "diet" and begs to become another failure in my life. So instead, I re-examine last year's "goals" and set new ones for the upcoming year. I find I am easier on myself that way! Not to mention, a little more successful. Amazing what a little play on words does for one's ego. Which brings me to my first blog post.

This is the year I step outside my box, conquer some fears, and actively market myself as a glass artist. I suppose I should change that to actively market my "work" as a glass artist. That play on words seems somewhat less threatening than marketing "myself."

It's so easy to pack my pockets with my latest creations and take them to work to show off. But post a picture in the gallery at Lampwork Etc. or a similar glass community? Talk about stress. Not that the good folks in those communities aren't supportive or encouraging. They are. It's just that tooting my own horn (at least in a crowd) has always been on the comfort level of, say, having a root canal. And I know I'm not alone in that sentiment.

So let me take this opportunity to encourage all you like-minded artists out there to join me in an attempt to conquer some fears in 2008. Study your craft. And actively pimp your work!!

Here's to making 2008 a fruitful new year.

And speaking of fruit, I really should eat more of it this year. :)
